Why is Ethanol Added to Gasoline? Is It India's New Fuel Revolution?

There have been several changes being experienced in the energy industry all over the world because most countries are now on a quest for alternative sources of energy, which are sustainable, environmentally-friendly and cost-effective. This way, the farmers will earn more money, and there will be an increase in employment opportunities. Another very important advantage of E20 fuel is its environmentally-friendly nature. While ordinary petrol fuel contributes to pollution of the environment and makes the air dirty, ethanol-based fuel provides better air quality and reduces the level of emission. It means better air conditions for city inhabitants. Even though this fuel does not solve the existing ecological problem in its entirety, it is a great step towards the development of green transportation system. Nevertheless, there exist certain issues related to this fuel and its use. The first problem is that some parts of older vehicles may get damaged due to the presence of ethanol in this fuel. For instance, rubber fuel lines and other elements are at risk. This is the reason why auto producers are creating specially-designed vehicles that can use E20 fuel. Even with these issues, however, India's ethanol blending initiative should be seen as an enlightened one and not just a trial. The initiative seeks clean energy, decreases the need for imports, helps farmers, and fosters innovations in technology. With better infrastructure and more compatible cars being available on the market, the importance of E20 can only increase. Conclusion Blending of ethanol in petrol is not a mere change in the composition of fuel but a strategically planned initiative intended to realize energy security, sustainability, and resilience of the country. Though some problems exist in this process, its advantages in the long run outweigh these problems.
